Our Alternative to Pollution
18 May 2012Pollution is a visible example of a lack of respect for oneself and the planet that supports us. We humans seem to be the only creatures that willfully contaminate our living environment. Through our thoughtless actions and warped values we have created dangerous imbalances in everything once naturally harmonious, from the Earth to human health … a whole host of environmental diseases unfamiliar to our forebears, a perplexing list of physical ills and challenges, leukemia in children, electromagnetic sensitivities which reduce immunity…poisoned land, poisoned animals, poisoned food… the list goes on and on! We challenge our political leaders to solve the problems but it really begins with each and every person.
If children are brought up in a home to respect and conserve all of our resources, and minimize their usage, they become caring planetary citizens; in our home every piece of paper, plastic or glass that any of us utilizes is recycled. The car is never left on idle. Our walks along the beach include picking up debris, and we often break our hikes in the mountains to bury the trash we find along the trail. These simple acts can guide our next generation into becoming caretakers rather than polluters.
We must educate ourselves and our children to become vitally aware of our responsibility to the earth and conditions we have created—not only to make informed choices of how we will nourish our own bodies with the highest quality of food possible, but also, how to replenish the nutrients we have taken from the land, waters and animals of the earth. This issue is dedicated to expanding that awareness in areas you may not yet be conscious of.
Reading such books as John Robbins ‘Diet For A New America’, subscription to the efforts of EarthSave, GreenPeace and others like them, and getting involved on a local level with the conservation and cleanup efforts, will bring you to a greater personal understanding. Sooner or later it will affect every aspect of your life, for you will see that without a personal effort in living harmoniously you will always be part of the problem, not the solution.
