Researchers at Boston University interviewed 76 adults ----- now 41 years old----who had first been studied at age five. At that time, their parents rated as warm or cold based on how physically affectionate they were, how strict, how many restrictions they put on sexuality or aggression and how tolerant they were of dependency. “The children of warm parents --- who held, kissed, hugged and cuddled their children a lot –grew up to be the adults most able to have long and relatively happy marriages, raise children and develop close friendships and outside interests, “ says Carol E. Franz, Ph.D. and professor of psychology.
